Victim mentality is an informal label, not a diagnosis used on this page. EGO's Victim Role names a pattern in which an available action is displaced by a demand for exemption. Actual victimization, illness, and needing help are different matters.
A worked situation: Record separately
Fictional example. A reader keeps asking friends to solve an application problem while declining an accessible form section. Another reader cannot access the form because of a disability. The same complaint does not establish the same available action.
Work through these questions: Record separately
| Question or field | Fictional completed example |
|---|---|
| Actual harm? | Record separately |
| Available action? | One accessible form section |
| Help needed? | Clarify one question |
| Exemption claim? | Someone else must do all of it |
| Evidence limit? | Do not infer motives from distress |
Keep harm and available action on different lines
Someone can have been harmed and still consider a supported next step. That does not make the harm their fault or establish a victim mentality. Kerub’s role metaphor concerns an exemption from an action that is genuinely available; it must not be used to dismiss dependence, danger, disability, or responsibility for another person’s conduct.
