Ingredient rows you can audit

ColumnFieldMeaning
AIngredientName and specification, such as unsalted butter
BPackage pricePrice paid for that ingredient package
CPackage quantityUsable amount in a stated unit
DRecipe quantityAmount this cake consumes, in the same unit
EIngredient cost=B6*D6/C6 for the first resource row

Use separate rows for batter, filling, frosting and edible decorations. Do not enter a volume quantity against a weight-based package without a recipe-specific conversion.

Completed sample and pricing block

The resource contains an invented completed sample: flour $1.20, butter $2.00, sugar $0.60, eggs $0.90, and a $19.30 allowance for other measured ingredients and sub-recipes. The ingredient total is $24. Replace that allowance with your real itemized recipes before quoting.

The summary adds three hands-on hours at $24/hour, $9 materials and $15 allocated overhead: $120 production cost. With a 25% markup, the result is $150 before delivery and tax. Margin is shown separately as 20%, so you can see that markup and margin use different denominators.

Fields outside the arithmetic

Add an order ID, estimate date, recipe version, design specification, cost update date and status. Keep these alongside the calculation rather than inside a notes field that nobody checks. A sample order ID might be CAKE-EXAMPLE-01; it is fictional and should not be mistaken for a customer record.

How to use the resource

  1. Copy the resource for a new order or duplicate its input rows with a new order ID.
  2. Replace package prices and quantities. Confirm that every denominator is positive.
  3. Measure the recipe amount used, then enter time, labor rate and materials.
  4. Choose markup deliberately. The supplied tab uses markup; do not enter a desired margin into that field.
  5. Compare estimated hours and cost with the completed job in a separate actuals record. Keep the approved customer price intact.

Treat blue input cells as editable and formula cells as calculations. A missing input is a review issue, not proof of a zero-cost ingredient. Save dated versions when scope or ingredient prices change.

Limits of a costing spreadsheet

This resource does not supply a legally reviewed contract, calculate sales tax, test recipes or establish local selling prices. It also cannot detect undocumented labor. A formula can be correct while the quote is incomplete.
