Start by changing one observable pattern, not by promising to become a different person. Name the outcome, identify what repeatedly interrupts it, separate real constraints from avoidable delay and test one feasible action. The result may be a completed step, a clearer obstacle or a request for support.

Choose an episode small enough to inspect

“I never succeed” is too broad. “I have opened the client proposal four times without writing the scope” gives you an event. Record what happened just before you switched tasks, what you did instead and what remained unfinished.

Do not start by deciding that a disability, illness, unsafe situation or lack of resources is an excuse. Establish what the task actually requires and what is currently possible. A feasible step may be asking for clarification or changing the plan.

Use a constraint-or-cover audit

QuestionUseful answer
What specifically prevents action?A missing specification, resource, skill or workable time slot
How can I verify that obstacle?Name the person, document or condition involved
Which part remains possible?A limited task, request or decision within current capacity
What does delay protect for the moment?A hypothesis about avoiding rejection, conflict or an imperfect result

Kerub's Authorship model examines the part you can create, sustain or leave unchanged. Her secondary-gain lens helps question a familiar arrangement without declaring that every difficulty benefits you or that you control everything. [A_EGO:INTRO] [A_EGO:5]

Make one experiment concrete

An original example: Lee postpones a proposal because the whole document feels like a judgment of competence. Today's experiment is to write three scope bullets at 9:15 a.m., check them against the client's request and ask one colleague whether a required item is missing.

Define success as those actions, not a guaranteed sale. Record what actually exists afterward. If the three bullets reveal a genuine knowledge gap, the next step is obtaining that knowledge; the experiment did not “fail” because it produced a useful obstacle.

Remove the substitute, not every source of comfort

If endless template browsing replaces writing, close that tab during the chosen session. If a conversation is necessary for safety or support, retain it. The purpose is to stop the specific substitution that displaces feasible work, not to prohibit care, rest or help.

CCI describes practical approaches to procrastination, including examining delay and planning action. Those clinical self-help resources are separate from the original experiment here; this page is not a reproduction or validation of their treatment program. E01

Review without a character verdict

Ask: Did I do the step? What interrupted it? Was the step feasible? What will change next time? Do not turn an incomplete task into “I am broken.” When persistent worry or distress interferes with life, seek qualified help rather than escalating a self-imposed discipline challenge. E05
